Self-love drives us to seek greatness and admiration while denying our flaws. Unable to destroy the truth of our imperfections, we hide them from ourselves and others. But refusing to acknowledge faults adds self-deception to weakness. Others don’t wrong us by exposing our flaws—they help free us from ignorance. Deserved contempt is just.

Chronicle of a sabotage
